The Power of Place
A prose writing workshop with author Brooks Rexroat
A strong character and a plot with great motion are staples of prose writing, but another transformative composition tool sometimes slips under the radar: detailed attention to setting. In this one-hour workshop designed for writers of all abilities and experience levels, we'll discuss the ways in which attention to place can elevate a text, then we'll write, briefly revise, and share a place-based fiction or nonfiction microstory. After the workshop, Rexroat will read from and sign copies of Pine Gap, his new novel set in southeastern Kentucky and Thrift Store Coats, his recently released collection of stories from the upper Midwest.
Brooks Rexroat visits Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, for student-focused fiction workshop and public reading from his books, Thrift Store Coats, Pine Gap, and The Busker.
